Hearing/Mediation Process

The Public Employee Relations Board responds to all complaints that are filed with this office according to the rules and regulations as established in the PERB Rules.

  1. A complaint or pleading is properly filed with the Board.
  2. The Executive Director processes the pleading by reviewing the filing for accuracy and completeness. If filing deficiencies are found, complainant will have a chance to resolve them.
  3. The responsible parties are notified and allowed to file a response.
  4. The case is scheduled for a Hearing, Voluntary Mediation, or Dismissal.
    1. A Hearing is held according to the Standard Hearing Procedures. The Hearing Examiners report, findings, and recommendation is forwarded to the Board for disposition.
    2. Voluntary Mediation is offered through the Mediation/Settlement Program.
    3. The case is dismissed.
  5. The Board renders all decisions on cases forwarded for disposition. The Board's decisions are final. Decisions may be appealed pursuant to DC Code 1-618.13(c) and 1-605.2(12).
